Journal 001 of the Pre-Production of "A looking Back"

Hi everyone,

I should have done this a month ago but I'm too lazy...
Anyway this is the journal that i write for my animation production assignment. (Of course i have to hand it in so I got it written down on Word)

It's not in the right day anyway, but I'll try to keep it in order.

So here is the first part (be prepare it's really long and boring!!!):

KIB212 ANIMATION STUDIO 1: PRE-PRODUCTION

ASSESSMENT 1: Journal

Day 01: 27th Feb 09

  • Introduction to the Animation Pre-production
  • Inspecting the places: Parer Place and The Block (KG)

Day 02: 1st Mar 09

  • Meet the client Lubi Thomas

Things to be considered:

- Effective/Reasonable speed and time

- Active/Passive view

- Resolution

- Display time (Night/day)

- Scenario, psychology

- G rating ( young viewer/ children)

Ideas:

  • Parer Place: 2 screens --> same clip run on both screen but one is a bit later than the other, then they can combine to make a whole big image sometimes.

  • The block – Glass wall screen: can see from both sides (inside/outside) so it could be a clip of someone painting something (e.g. Speed painting)

Need:

- Concept art (drawings, sketching): Idea about characters and environment

- Support materials: Photos of the environment

Day 03: 11th Mar 09

  • Inspecting the places – Taking photos

Parer Place

The Block

Day 4: 12th Mar 09

  • Read Sharing stories: a social history of Kelvin Grove Urban Village by Helen Klaebe

Ideas:

  • Parer Place: A historical short film of the Kelvin Grove Urban Village

Day 5: 13th Mar 09

  • Introduction to the Production Management
  • Talking to Andrew about the historical short film idea

Thing that need to be confirmed:

- Can the 2 screens work separately?

Ideas:

- 1 min 2D short film (a loop maybe), but the environment could be 3D so it would be easier to shoot different interesting view angles

- Work on the Parer Place Screens

- The changing of the environment throughout time: white settlers dominated the land and killed local Aboriginal ppl – forming army – growing buildings – QUT involve …(think about the revolution walking cycle of human being)

- Cartoon style with simple images and shading / Folding book style

- Characters can run from one screen to another

Need:

- A style guide

- A storyboard
